‘Destiny 2’ New Reset Update: Tower Traitor, Stasis Tutor And The Frozen Tree

The big news in Destiny 2 this week is of course, that there is no news. Not really, anyway, short of one very crucial new lore entry attached to the Interference quest.

We are in the third week of Solstice of Heroes and it looks like Bungie may just have this be “the thing” all month long without anything new tied to weekly reset. Evacuation has been pushed back, and if there is an “end” to the Interference quest, it would be in two weeks when the lore entries finish, when Beyond Light was supposed to arrive.

It’s “get the Knights close together” week on Titan, and get Umbral Traces in Menagerie with weapon disintegrations, which I don’t love. There is no secret alternate part in the Interference quest this week, even if one is coming eventually maybe. The tree has not moved. I’m not sure it’s ever moved, frankly, outside of it looking “whole” when the season first arrived. So really, all we have is to focus on the lore. And it’s good lore.

This week’s word is “camouflage,” which refers to a predator stalking its prey from an unseen place.

Some of this ties into one thing we’ve seen in game, the other part, something we’ve discussed a lot, but technically is datamined lore from the Traveler’s Chosen exotic.

The entry this week has the Darkness telling us that we should be distrustful of someone in our own ranks, a traitor in the Tower:

“Now I am hiding the truth even from my own friend. I do not want to make them distrust the Vanguard. But I am sure that this warning is genuine… and that it points to a threat in our own ranks. There are inflections to this logograph that speak of a killer hidden in plain sight.”

I think we’re Eris’s “friend” here, and who is she referring to?

In terms of the stuff that’s already in game we can freely discuss, there’s the Prophecy dungeon interaction between Eris and Drifter where she warns that the skull above Shaxx is whispering a viral Savathun tune in his ear, and should be destroyed. So that’s not great, and likely what the Darkness is referring to.

But the second half of this is a theory I’ve discussed a few times now, the eventual corruption of Zavala, either as a big plot turn before Beyond Light, or something that may take place over the course of the next year ahead of The Witch Queen.

The datamined lore entry for Traveler’s Chosen is told from Savathun’s perspective inside that skull, and the person she seems to be watching and probing into is Zavala, just a short distance away, and the entry ends with her seeming to slip inside him, possibly corrupting him. So yes, this is where that storyline begins really, with this lore entry warning from the Darkness.

One more thing past this is that Eris wonders if she can teach other Guardians to pass through the Darkness and come out the other side without being consumed by it, like she has. So it stands to reason that if anyone is going to be teaching us Stasis in Beyond Light, the Darkness power, it’s going to be Eris. We’ve already seen her use it in the trailer.

This may tie into Bungie’s reveal this Thursday which is supposed to be focused on Stasis more in depth. We have seen a “Stasis trailer” loosely showing off a few powers, but supposedly this new subclass is upgraded differently than others, and maybe we’ll learn about Eris’ role in teaching it to us as well.
